My Passion…

This week, we have been asked by our teacher to blog about our “passion”. Before I start, I would like to make one point. I am only 13 years old and still have no idea what my true passion will turn out to be, so I’m simply going to talk about the things that I believe might have potential in my future.

Currently, I am completely obsessed with playing tennis. I have a red, black, and white Babolat sweet-spot (that’s my racket) that can almost be defined as my best friend. Frequently, I find myself carrying it around just in case the chance to get in a set or two in arises. You never know when you’ll come across a court. I’ve been playing since I was very little, I can’t tell you the exact year, but I’m guessing I started when I was between the ages of 4 and 6. At first, it was just something I did. Something that came naturally every week. I didn’t understand that tennis was something to *enjoy* not just perform until I was much older. But when I did realize it, I fell in love with the game. The past two years I have gotten into it more than ever before, perhaps with the daunting experience of highschool coming up I realize that if I want to make a varsity team I need to work harder to become even better than I am. I love donning my pink and neon green “watermelon suit” which is the tennis skirt set that I wear when I play. I’ve realized that pouring sweat is one of the best feelings in the world as long as you are focusing all your strength on a circular point on your racket face and have a tennis ball in your hand.

The second thing that could count as my passion would be writing. Turns out, I’m pretty good at it. Writing is taking all the mixed up jumble that forms in my creative mind and channeling it into a comprehensible flow that is satisfying both to me and to my reader. A story is your own private world that you can shape in any grotesque, obscene, or utopian society that you like. It’s almost amazing to have that much power. You create people with lives and interests, towns with histories and futures, countries with amazing potential. They can inspire millions. Think about this: J.K. Rowling. Is it possible to not know this name, or the characters associated with her such as Hermoine Granger, Ron Weasly, and Harry Potter? This saga was the creation of a *writer* on a piece of paper. A magical legend that inspired movies, more books, short videos, and even a theme park. Writing has powers. Writers harness that power. On the other hand, writers are paid to lie. They sit down and pull fantasies and whims out of their head. Perhaps this is even the reason why writing (and reading) is so popular. People love to escape into a world, or life, that is different, and sometimes better, than their own.
